Adopt-A-Stream

Adopt-A-Stream is CRWC’s volunteer water quality monitoring program. CRWC volunteers sample, test and record the water’s physical habitat, biological community, and channel characteristics such as erosion and the amount of streamside vegetation. CRWC provides volunteers with all the training and equipment needed to participate in Adopt-A-Stream.

Stream Leaders

Stream Leaders, a water quality monitoring program for students, does just that. It helps students gain an in-depth understanding of their natural world and how it affects them, while promoting interdisciplinary learning. Students learn skills that are useful and relevant outside of school, and are encouraged to become informed, responsible citizens and life-long learners.

Clinton River Coldwater Conservation Project

CRWC is partnering with Trout Unlimited and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to explore opportunities to enhance the Clinton River as an urban trout fishery. Check out the project page to find out how you can get involved!

Stormwater Education

Stormwater pollution is the greatest source of water quality impairments in the Clinton River and its tributaries. In more densely developed areas of the watershed, where there is a large percentage of impervious surface (rooftops, roads, sidewalks, lawns, etc.), the effects of stormwater pollution are particularly evident. Stormwater Pollution prevention tips are available to educate the public on how to help. We also offer educational presentations & workshops.

Our Services

Watershed Management

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Phase II Storm Water Rule, issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, required municipalities and other public bodies that operate a separate storm water drainage system within a U.S. Census-defined Urbanized Boundary to obtain a stormwater permit by March 2003. This permit program affects over 170 communities in Southeast Michigan and is administered by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Clinton River Area of Concern

The Clinton River is a designated Area of Concern under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, signed in 1972 by the governments of Canada and the United States. The boundary of the Area of Concern includes the entire Clinton River watershed, the Clinton River spillway, and the coastal area of Lake St. Clair south of the mouth of the Clinton River and spillway, where water quality is affected by flows from the Clinton River.
