Education Programs:

      • Stream Leaders - Student River Monitoring Program
We understand the pressures on teachers today. Wouldn't it be nice to have a fun program that is ready to use and helps schools meet MEGOSE guidelines and Michigan Curriculum Framework benchmarks? Stream Leaders, a water quality monitoring program for students, does just that. It helps students gain an in-depth understanding of their natural world and how it affects them, while promoting interdisciplinary learning. Students learn skills that are useful and relevant outside of school, and are encouraged to become informed, responsible citizens and life-long learners.

    • Our Water. Our Future. Ours to Protect.
Our Water. Our Future. Ours to Protect. CRWC is a member of the Southeast Michigan Partners for Clean Water, a regional public outreach effort coordinated by SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments. On Earth Day in April 2004, the Partners launched a campaign to educate the public about preventing stormwater pollution. Visit SEMCOG's website and click on the Ours to Protect icon to find out how you can help protect our local waterways.

    • Watershed Presentations & Workshops
CRWC offers personalized presentations and workshops to community groups, homeowners associations, businesses and municipal staff on a variety of topics, including stormwater management, watershed planning, wetlands and open space protection, woody debris management, pollution prevention, recreation, and fisheries. Contact us for details or to make a request.

Education Materials:

    • Bear Creek Stormwater Education Guide
Learn all about stormwater pollution in Bear Creek and what you can do to help.

    • Native Americans of the Clinton River Watershed
Most of us are knowledgeable about the settlement of French colonists in what is now the state of Michigan during the 17th century, as well as the English conquest against the French to gain control of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. However, archaeologists have now confirmed that humans have occupied the Great Lakes Basin for at least 12,000 years. Who were these ancient people? How did they get here? How did their way of life depend on the Clinton River and other rivers in the area? To explore these questions, follow this link
      .

    • Storm Drain Stenciling Guide
Throughout most of the Clinton River watershed, rain and snow that drain into the grates in our streets and parking lots flow directly to our waterways without treatment. Marking storm drain grates with a message such as "dump no waste - drains to river" is one way to raise the awareness about the connection between our storm drain system and our waterways.
CRWC has a stenciling kit available with instructions for volunteers and local governments, plus we have plastic stencils available to borrow or purchase ($15 each). We also have templates for door hangers to distribute when a group stencils the drains in a neighborhood. Many communities are switching to plastic storm drain decals that are affixed with a liquid adhesive. The decals are colorful and seem to stand up better to wear and tear. We have samples available in our office and they can be ordered online at www.dasmanufacturing.com.

    • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Tip Card Series
From fertilizer to auto care to household hazardous waste, these simple tips will help you reduce your stormwater pollution.
