Event Detail

Join the CRWC, Lake St. Clair Metropark, and Macomb County in a volunteer Poplar Pull at Lake St. Clair Metropark, a project designed to remove cottonwood tree saplings from the beach at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Cottonwoods, a member of the poplar tree family, have become a nuisance on the beach, outcompeting recently planted native vegetation. The native plantings are designed to prevent beach erosion and discourage Canada geese and seagulls from using the sandy beach.
Poplar Pull will be on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the Metropark, located at 31300 Metropolitan Parkway in Harrison Township. In the case of inclement weather, a makeup date is scheduled Oct. 6, from 4-6 p.m.
Tools will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves and appropriate footwear.
Questions may be directed to Amanda Oparka of Macomb County Parks and Natural Resources, at 586-469-5285 or amanda.oparka@macombgov.org
Registration will allow volunteers to enter the park for free. Anyone interested in participating is asked to sign up by Monday, Sept. 26. The two-hour project is a great opportunity for students to gain some service project time.
