Nourished By Nature

Nourished By Nature began in 2023 to help watershed residents have fun outside by providing engaging educational experiences that brought participants a little closer to the outdoors and gave them a chance to test-drive recreational and nature-based hobbies.

CRWC often shares that clean water and a healthy environment are essential for a strong economy and a high quality of life within our diverse watershed. CRWC focuses on sharing education about our freshwater resources, advocating for and participating in the stewardship of our natural environment, and working with local municipalities on restoration and green infrastructure projects, but in the summer of 2023, CRWC shared the experiences that sparked our passion for the outdoors in the first place.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the benefits of spending time outdoors.

This series invited those who have little-to-no experience outside to join CRWC for guided activities in our natural spaces. Attendees got firsthand experiences viewing wildlife, learning about recreational resources, spending time with outdoor experts, exploring different environments, and making new memories.

PREVIOUSLY IN THIS SERIES:

  • CRWC teamed up with the Detroit Zoo, the City of Eastpointe, Eastpointe Memorial Library, Macomb Audubon, and Macomb County to make birding more accessible. This event provided an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the natural world, while learning about different bird species and their habitats.

More than 25 participants learned about the importance of bird surveys, birding and biodiversity, the connection to Eastpointe, local songbirds, tree canopy covers, and how to identify different bird species before birding in the field. Our guides led Eastpointe residents through natural habitats, helped them spot and identify different bird species, and learn about their behaviors and habitats.

  • Nourished by Nature: Kayaking Adventure, through this series, participants experienced the beauty of our local waterways like never before.

14 participants registered to learn the fundamentals of kayaking and paddling techniques, and practiced these skills at a comfortable pace.

Our route began at Webber Paddle Park where we went over safety information, got into our PFD's, and loaded into our kayaks to head upstream. Our itinerary for this event included a mid-point stop at a locally-owned custard shop. Finally, we headed downstream, back towards Webber Paddle Park. In general, 3-5 miles is recommended for beginners. This route was approximately 1.92 miles one way - 3.84 miles total.

  • 30 participants joined us for a memorable evening of outdoor adventure and creativity at the Clinton River Watershed Council's final 2023 experience series event, Nourished by Nature - Cycling & Art. This exciting gathering offered a unique blend of cycling, walking, artistic expression, and delicious food in the Clinton River watershed.

Participants pedaled their way through a short cycling trip, where they explored the natural wonders of the watershed on their own bikes.

Following the cycling excursion, art supplies were provided so that participants could spend time in creativity and capture the inspiring landscapes of the Clinton River watershed on canvas.
