Residential Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Service Expands into Macomb Communities
Green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) can help capture and utilize stormwater runoff, preventing it from entering the storm sewer system.
Capturing water this way improves water quality, recharges groundwater, reduces flood risks and protects local waterways.
Residents can be part of the solution for capturing stormwater by installing green infrastructure on their own property. But doing so can be daunting for many people.
In order to expand its GSI expertise, CRWC is launching a new program this summer, Rain to Roots. Initially, this program will provide residential GSI services for a fee to residents in three Macomb communities that experience frequent flooding—Centerline, Sterling Heights and Warren. Residents will have access to site assessments, rain barrel and native plant sales, and rain barrel installation services.
CRWC’s goal in the long term is to expand residential GSI services across the watershed and to add rain garden design and installation as additional service offerings in future years.
Site assessments and GSI installations will begin in July, with plans to expand to additional communities in 2026.
Residents will soon be able to schedule Rain to Roots services via the CRWC website as well as pay for their initial assessment.
