About the Rain Catchers Collective
The Rain Catchers Collective is an alliance of three Southeast Michigan watershed organizations emphasizing the advantages of clean water for business, recreation, and the environment. Partners envision resilient and prosperous towns in southeast Michigan that are equipped with the tools to better implement green stormwater infrastructure.
When precipitation falls and moves over impervious surfaces, such as parking lots, driveways, and rooftops, it can pick up pollutants and sediments and carry them into our local water systems, including rivers, lakes, and streams.
Green infrastructure can help capture and utilize the water, preventing it from entering the storm sewer system. Capturing water on the landscape improves water quality, recharges groundwater, reduces flood risks, and protects local waterways.
The Rain Catchers Collective invites you to become a part of the clean water solution by adopting proven practices that capture, clean, and reuse rainwater runoff:
Plant native species to help absorb and filter water. The Rain Catchers Collective can help you find native plants. Native plants are easier to maintain, and they add color and beauty to your yard while supporting butterflies, bees, birds, and other wildlife.
If you have a yard, consider a rain garden! We teach classes and conduct site assessments.
Buy a rain barrel to collect and use rain to water your plants—those you do not eat— while reducing excess water on your property.
