These trails are open all year and are part of the planned cross-state trail project. When completed, the Great Lakes Trail will extend from Port Huron to South Haven. Get to know your watershed and greenways by exploring them today!

  • The Clinton River Trail is a rail-trail that extends across 16 miles of Oakland County through suburban, urban, and rural portions of Detroit's northern suburbs. This trail has a variety of surfaces including crushed limestone and pavement that follows a railroad line through central Oakland County including Sylvan Lake, Pontiac, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, and Rochester. The Clinton River Trail connects with the West Bloomfield Trail to the west and the Macomb Orchard Trail to the east.

  • This 8-mile long crushed limestone trail follows Paint Creek through five communities in northern Oakland County. The northern end of the trail begins in the Village of Lake Orion, continuing through Orion Township, Oakland Township, Rochester Hills, and Rochester where it ends in Rochester Municipal Park. If you continue through downtown Rochester on the paved Paint Creek Walkway, you will get onto the Clinton River Trail near Second Street.

  • The Polly Ann Trail is a 14.2 mile long, non-motorized trail that connects the northern Oakland County communities of Orion Township, Oxford Township, the Village of Oxford, Addison Township and the Village of Leonard. It utilizes the abandoned P.O. & N. (hence the name Polly Ann) rail line and transverses through some of the most beautiful and untouched landscape in northern Oakland County. The trail is open year-round during daylight hours and is restricted to non-motorized uses. Walking, hiking, jogging, cycling, horseback riding and cross-country skiing in winter are some of the activities enjoyed by users of all ages.

  • Named for all the orchards in the area, the Orchard Trail is a multi-use, non-motorized trail on 19.5 miles of abandoned railroad in central and northern Macomb County. The trail runs from Shelby Township through Washington Township, Romeo, Armada Township, and Richmond Township. The Orchard Trail is paved through Shelby Township and connects with Stony Creek Metropark, Bloomer Park, and the Clinton River Trail.
